We really need a camera here to fully understand my workplace

So, a while back we had the whole fiasco with CoreComm. See the previous CoreComm Sucks posting. When all that was going on my boss and I were discussing the fact that CoreComm has been unreliable for both email and Web hosting. Due to them being completely unreliable and making changes without notifying customers we decided we would switch vendors. We decided to go with one of our ISPs to do our hosting of email and Web services.

I received the information on setting it up over the summer and asked my boss when I should aim for it to go live. At that time I was told to wait until things settled down a bit as it was the beginning of the school year which is crazy around here. So I waited and when things calmed down I got email and our Website setup with our ISP.

Needless to say it's been 2 months since it's been set up and about 4-5 months since we took on the ISP for these services, so we're paying for both at this time! I've been sending emails to my boss about them being ready and have even asked our accountant/boss' right hand man to see if she could get an answer out of him. Well today, she brought it up in their mini meeting. He acted like he had no clue what she was talking about! His response: "Why would I get rid of Core Comm?" Really? Are you serious???? In response she told him to ask me. That was an hour ago and he has yet to come. I'm trying to resist sending an email to him explaining the situation!!

This isn't the first time something like this has happened either. Recently we had a problem with a ISP that had local outages. When that happened he found out that our new version of the product was on this line (which hasn't had outages that effected us within the last 3 years). As soon as he found that out he was in here to tell me to switch that product to the other comm line permanently. Mind you that last school year we had MANY problems with that line and informed him about them. Usually it was a quick outage, but noticible by our customers. So I told him I wouldn't recommend that then he freaked out and said we have to keep a log now.

Next was we had issues with our new product last week. My spurr of the moment job was to back up the production files every time our off-site developer did an update. OK, fine, but I don't know .Net I don't know what needs to be backed up and half the time I'm not informed when an update is going out. Wouldn't it be better to tell the developer to make a copy of it when he puts it out? He's already making a copy of the previous stuff.

See everything suddenly becomes an emergency.....then when the problems are worked out they're forgotten. Really, I sometimes wish we had hidden cameras here so people could see that things that happen here are not in our imagination or we're not making them seem worse. They really ARE this bad!

On the plus side. My kitchen drain unfroze on Friday. Since we had the snow day I set up a space heater to warm up the cabinet all day and now I have my sink and dishwasher back!!! Just in time for my Birthday!

Welcome Home

This past weekend we went up north for Christmas with my Parents and Mom's side. It was a very nice weekend and it was nice to see my family that I haven't seen for a while. I was kinda sad to see how bad my Grandma is. She has Alzheimer's and it is pretty bad. Within 5 min she asked me then Rick how she got to my Aunt's house, when she got there, and how she's getting home. She also spent most of the time in her room curled up on the bed under blankets and was very anti-social. Over all it was a good weekend. We returned on Monday evening after dropping off chocolates to some of our northern districts. This resulted in an 8.5 hour car ride!! That's far too long to be in a car for me!

Once we returned we noticed we had a not so nice surprise. Our kitchen faucet was dripping while we were gone. Since the temps were below zero and the drain area is not well insulated the drain froze. I spent a majority of Tuesday evening trying to get the thing to unfreeze to no avail. Salt, boiling water, keeping the cupboard door open, and taking a hair dryer to the pipes did nothing! I am so pissed and so frustrated! I went home at lunch today and nope it's still froze. Not sure what to do here. Any ideas????

The frozen drain mixed with me falling on my ass at the end of the driveway and hitting my head hard enough to knock my glasses to the top of my head, dinner made the house smokey (grease hit the broiler part), the dog whining, snow, and the fact I did not want to go to Puppy KG made me very crabby and unhappy. I'm still crabby and unhappy because of drama at work. Here's hoping to a better evening....and the salmon not making the broiler smell!

Snowfall

Last night was the first major snowfall of the season around here. Forecasters were predicting 6-8 inches of snow. However, in the end we ended up with about 3 inches due to warmer temps by the lake. Since our house is so close to the lake we ended up with rain/sleet for most of Sunday and the snow had not started sticking to the ground as of the last time I took the dog out last night (around 9:00).

This morning the snow was up to the brown markings on Bella's legs in most spots. She loves the snow...I think it somehow gives her more energy! She loves running in it and shoving her face all the way up to her eyeballs into the snow. She kept me laughing through our walk this morning! However, she wasn't too thrilled with the shovel this morning. I thought I'd let her play in the snow while I shoveled. She just sat by the door so I let her in. This is one of the times I wish we had a completely fenced in yard so I could just let her run free.

This was a very pleasant weekend! On Sat. Rick said he was going to go clean out the garage so both cars could fit. I gave him a hand and it only took half an hour or so and we had both cars in there! Perfect timing too!! It was so nice not to have to brush off the van this morning before coming to work! Turkey pot pie turned out beautifully we didn't even have any leftovers...which we usually do when I make chicken pot pie. We also watched a movie...The Strangers. I'm not quite sure I'd say that's a good movie, but it's not horrible.

Vacation

I'm on vacation this week. Not going anywhere or doing anything special. I just had 3 vacation days left prior to my 3 yr mark and REALLY needed a break from the "special" place I work at. Somehow I thought that the purpose of a vacation is to be away from work. Apparently not for me.

I understand in my position I may need to be called if something happened like servers failed. However, if it's not an emergency I should not be called. Well, this afternoon I was working on hanging a new set of blinds (which really sucked b/c of the angle). I hear my phone ring and go to answer it. It's my boss. I hit ignore so it'll go to voicemail right away. He calls back 2 more times, then finally leaves a message. Apparently he's scheduled me to go with him to visit 2 of our districts on Monday. One of which threatened to look at other vendors if they're not fixed on Monday when he comes. Therefore I have to go.

Here's my stance: when your only IT person comes back from a 3 day vacation you should probably keep them in the office. That's just me. Plus you should give them a day back in the office so you don't have to call them while they're on vacation. Apparently though that's not how things work at my "special" place of employment. If only the economy were a bit better...I'd look for a new job in a heart beat then.

Sigh. Is 2:30 too early to have an appletini?

Puppy

On Saturday while Rick and I were out and about we stopped by the WI Humane society. While there we found these adorable 10wk old German Shepherd mix puppies. We have discussed getting a puppy many times in the past and we have concluded that we will get 2 dogs ~ a German Shepherd for Rick and a Pug or Wiener dog for me :) However, we plan on getting them about a year or so apart....we need to adjust to one at a time.

Since we knew we wanted a Shepherd we HAD to have one of these puppies. So, I talked to the lady up front and put my name on the waiting list to meet with a counselor. The lady informed me that it would be an hour and a half wait and asked if I could wait that long. I said of course. So, we sat around, filled out the application, walked around and watched the puppies. Rick had his eye on the male in the room that with the traditional shepherd markings and I had my eye on this little female that was mostly black with patches of tan on her legs. As we were waiting another couple met with a counselor and was looking at these puppies, specifically the little boy. Rick was devastated. Of course shortly after they were meeting the pups our beeper goes off and we meet with our counselor, Holly.

She took us into the room meet the pups. The little girl I had my eye on was adorable and SO sweet. Holly showed us another little boy that may have been from the same litter. He was a pretty cool pup too. We met with the pups again trying to make our decision. Finally we decided on the little girl I had my eye on. Roughly 2.5 hours after we arrived at the Humane Society we left with our little girl.

Meet Bella (which means beautiful in Italian) the newest addition to our family. She's been a good pup thus far. She's doing okay on potty training, but is starting to become a stinker and going in the house shortly after we bring her in. She's also in the fun stage of I'm going to chew on EVERYTHING I see. Puppies are a lot of work, but totally worth it. Like Rick said, this is the next step before children. I think I'd have to agree with that one, she's just like a toddler!

Brewers

So today is game 1 of the playoffs for the Brewers. Go Brewers!!!! I've suddenly become addicted to them. The other day I found myself glued to the TV watching the game against the Cubs yet I was home alone and could have watched anything I wanted. Heck I even cheered at the TV!

Since today's game is in the middle of the day I'm listening to it at work. It's bringing back good memories. I remember being young and visiting my Grandparents in Spring Brook. It seemed as though there was always a Brewers game on. I came very familiar with the sound of Bob Uecker's voice. Grandpa must have had a lot of patience, because he never yelled at us noisy kids. :) RIP Grandpa Dale ...much love!

Raid on a Lanyard

At work we have a problem with centipedes. Centipedes are my arch nemesis as I've posted many times previously. Since they are such a problem around the office (they particularly like my office for some reason) we came up with the idea of Raid on a lanyard. It would be perfect! I would never be without Raid - EVER!

I am working on this phobia I have, and today I made a step in the right direction.....I ran and got the Raid and killed the centipede all by my self! I could not pick up the dead body, I relied on my co-worker for that, but actually killing it myself is a HUGE step for me (baby steps are the way to go)!!!

I have also discovered that I would use my Raid on a lanyard at home as well. One of the cats killed a centipede on the fireplace. Man was that thing big. EWE! In my usual freakout mode I backed away and told Rick to get it. It was already dead, yet I was completely frozen and couldn't bring myself to picking it up. Given the amount of spiders in our house and the fact that South Milwaukee is known for their centipedes I am pretty sure I'll be needing Raid.....it would just be great if it was on a lanyard so I would have it with me everywhere. :)

Panic Day

So today is my panic day. The first panic came when I walked into the bathroom at work, looked at myself in the mirror and noticed my face is getting fatter. Which really makes sense, because I've been drinking a lot of soda, not exercising, and not really watching what I eat. So really I shouldn't be surprised. But I was shocked. Rick says he hasn't noticed and my co-worker says I'm crazy....fat doesn't magically appear. Which makes sense, but I still freaked out!

My next freak out episode was when I went to change backup tapes. I grabbed Tuesdays, put it back in our storage area and froze. I could swear today is Tuesday....but how could that be if I have Tuesday's tape in my hand? So I double checked the calender and yes, it is Wed. This combined with other various mishaps has gotten me to worry about my memory/thinking abilities. For instance on Fri. I talked to Rick's Mom during the day. She told me to call her when we knew when we'd have the U-haul. Come Sat. morning Rick called her wondering where she was. Yup, I forgot to call her. Other instances have happened when someone will tell me something and I forget it in minutes. I think some brain stimulating activities are in order. I'm only 27 I should not have this bad of memory.

I've calmed down from my freak outs now, all is good.....tomorrow I start my workout routine again, I should feel more normal in a couple weeks!

Hell week

So, this week has been particularly fun. We got the keys to the house on Sunday and took a load of boxes over. The sellers didn't get everything out until 8:00pm because it was raining that day and their stuff was all put into a Pod that would be stored for 2 weeks, so they didn't want it to get wet and moldy. Personally, they should have gotten the thing earlier. I wanted the keys to MY house.

After actually seeing the rooms with nothing in them we decided that we didn't like the color of the master bedroom ~ a Coca-Cola red color, so we were going to paint it. I wanted to get it painted prior to moving things in to make it easier. So that became my main project for the week. I got the primer done on Tues, the first coat done on Wed, and just have the final coat to do.....sometime before Friday. The color we agreed on was a shade of gray. I was a little apprehensive of painting the room gray, but I think it looks pretty darn good and it will look even better with our burgandy bedspread.

While doing the painting I noticed one of the Hildebrandt traits coming out. I have a pic of me when I was little, doing something in the kitchen, and my tongue is out just a little. I also have a pic of my Dad doing something on the stairwell to the basement, with his tongue out. Had anyone been in the room with me they could have gotten another pic of me with my tongue out many times! I guess I never outgrew that habit. :P

Since I've been putting in extra hours at work this week I'm hoping to leave early tomorrw so I can get the painting done before my Sister comes to help me move. Then the rest of the weekend will be all about the moving/unpacking. What Fun!!!! I'm exhausted already and can't wait until I can slow down and just relax. Too bad Sept. is a black out month for us here at work. I could use the extra day.

Cheers! H.

Insecurities

Last night and today I have been very insecure. No reason in particular, just feel that way. I feel like a damn teenager again or something. Shouldn't there come an age where that just goes away and you feel all better about yourself and relationships you're in?

Things with Rick and I have been good, so it's not like somethings going on that would cause me to feel this way, I just don't get it.

Actually I think it might be lack of sex. I'm horrible at turning him on, had the same problem with my ex too, so I'm pretty sure it's me. Is it my timid personality? Is it my weight? Inexperience? Lack of imagination in that area? I have no clue. I'm frustrated sexually and in whatever other way(s) you can be. Sigh. The details of the frequency of my sex life are pathetic, and against the common misconception it's not because I don't want it, it's the opposite I want it all the time, he wants it never.

That's my little rant and rave for the day.

Good Times!

Today has been very eventful! The seller's called me this morning. Yesterday Time Warner was installing a fiber line in the area and ended up putting a hole in the gas line to the house. She smelled gas and called WE energies. Sure enough they confirmed it. They put a temporary shutoff clamp in and gave 2 options. Since they are no longer the owner she called us to make the decision. We're having a new line installed up to the house and the new meter will now be outside instead of inside.

Later on I call my Mom. Tell her closing went well, and we move in on the 15th. She busts out something about a letter she received regarding the chapter 13 bankruptcy my ex and I filed 3 years ago. Apparently the attorney is filing an application for obtaining an additional $2,000 in attorney fees. My Mom did not know about the bankruptcy previous to this letter. Anyways, I did not get the letter as they don't have my correct address. They called and got it from me this morning. Come to find out it's about this crap.

Another surprise my Mom sprung on me all non-nonchalantly: Dad was in the hospital for 2 weeks. 2 weeks and no one told me? WTF! Maybe she figured that it wasn't a big deal, it was only cellulitis, but still.

Next she fills me in on my Grandma. She's been staying with my parents for 2 weeks. She wants to die. She asked my Mom to put her in a home so she could die. I guess she has these heart attacks, which aren't really heart attacks, she looks like she is, feels like she is, but gets to the hospital and there's nothing wrong with her. She has done this at least 3 different times now. Since Grandpa died 2 years ago, she just feels like a burden and is lost. I feel bad for her.

We were supposed to go up to visit this weekend, but with all the recent drama and the car not acting right, I think I'm going with my gut and staying put. My gut is right most of the time!

TTFN! Have a great weekend everyone and be safe!

Update on life

Wow, I have really been slacking on my blogging lately!

Not a whole lot of excitement going on for me. Work is insanely busy and stressful. I swear I need a clone of myself and my knowledge. I am usually completely exhausted when I get home from work and want to do nothing but eat dinner and veg out.

One day this past week I decided I would walk home, well at least until the point where Rick would find me when he got off work. I get off about 1 hour earlier than him, so I get a decent head start, then if he's late getting off then I have more time. This particular day I walked about 5.2 miles an an hour 48 min. Not bad for me at all. Aside from the blister on the bottom of my toe caused by little gravel pieces all was good and will be doing this one day a week until it gets too cold/yucky out.

I have gone no where with my weightloss. This week I will be mixing it up a bit and doing half cardio half strength training workouts. We'll see if that helps. 60 lbs to go....it seems so far away. Meanwhile, Rick works out maybe 1 day a week and has lost another 10 lbs, putting him within 10 lbs of his goal. He sucks! Yeah, I'm just hatin' cause it is so hard for me.

Rick is almost done with school! Yay! That means that we can have our weekends back! No longer will we have to rush and get homework done, or do nothing on Sundays cause that's homework day. :D Tomorrow is his final (capstone) presentation. As soon as he's done putting the entertainment center back together we'll be going over his part then tomorrow it's all done!

We've had a couple weddings lately, one was his Mom's and one was his cousin's. I had a bit of a hard time at his cousin's just because it broght back memories of my wedding. Much was the same, bride's side (white) on one side and groom's side (black) on the other...someone complaining about the music. I must be getting old or something not so fun, I had 3 beers, 1 Mike's hard Cranberry, and 3 or 4 Smirnoff Twisteds and did not even get anything close to resembling a buzz. Then we went to another of Rick's cousin's house's and I had 3 more beers and a lemon drop shot. Still no buzz. Rick said he got a very slight buzz for a brief time period, but was also disappointed. Yet I can make one Appletini at home and be wasted! Go figure!

This morning I went to a baby shower for Rick's Step Sister. It was fun. I still felt like an ass because I said something to Rick about me not being invited last weekend. Then magically the day after he sees his Mom his Step Sister called me and appologized for not inviting me. I met Rick's Mom at her house then we car pooled out to the shower. It was a good time. It's amazing how much melted candy bars in diapers really does resemble poop!

Well, Rick is almost done with the EC so I'm calling it a day. Not sure when I'll make another entry, but I'll try to be better. I promise!

Sadness

Via Myspace this afternoon I found out that a friend of mine for High School's husband died. I sent her my condolences then checked the Hudson news paper Website. The first article I saw was in regard to a 34 year old man jumping off an overpass onto I-94 below. My immediate thought was NO this can't be. Continuing my reading I found his name. It was him. He jumped from the over pass and was then struck by 3 cars.

I feel horrible for his friends and family. They have 2 young children under the age of two that will never know their father. It is such a sad story. On this Website they allow comments on articles ~ most comments were postitive wishes for friends and family. However, some punk ass bitch named Steve S. from River Falls WI was making comments about shit on CCAP from years ago where charges were dropped by the prosecutor and making comments like good riddance, people like that should all be dead. What kind of person is this Steve guy? Besides an asshole!

Anyways, I am keeping my friend and her family in my prayers. I can only imagine what she is going through.

You call this parenting?

Yesterday Rick and I were eating at Subway inside Walmart in Franklin. When we were ordering we noticed a little girl maybe 5-6 years old sitting at one of the tables and playing with a nearby cart. There was an older gentleman at a table near that one who appeared to be watching her.

As we were eating at the table next to hers a woman came up with a baby in a car seat carrier. She told the little girl "I'm going to go get baby some food you sit here". o_O WTF you're going to leave a child sitting by herself at a table in the front of a Walmart store? The little girl protested and told the lady she wanted to go with. By the Mc Donald's Happy Meal bag sitting on the table I had the feeling the poor little girl was sitting there the whole time while this lady was doing all of her shopping. After the lady left we kept an eye on the girl and the guy who appeared to be watching her. Then he left, confirming the fact that this little girl was sitting by herself at that table with no adult supervision.

When the lady came back (with the baby food and all of her stuff checked out) she fed the baby from one of the cans she bought and yelled at the little girl for getting the baby's toy in the food. In her yelling at the little girl (who did VERY well sitting by herself) we found out that this was her Grandma! We had just finished eating and got out of there ASAP I had enough!

Although I am not a parent myself I find this completely appalling! You DO NOT under ANY circumstances leave a child of that age alone by themselves in public! It would have been SO easy for a stranger to walk up and take that girl out the door without anyone knowing any different. Big fricken whoop if the kid bothers you because she wants something...or everything...there's a response to that: NO! And I bet if something did happen to that little girl the "Grandma" would be all upset and whining.

When did this happen????

I've been noticing certain aspects of my personality lately that have become less than desirable. For instance, I've become extremely anal about certain things. One thing is toilet paper. It HAS to be facing the right way ~ waterfall. I understand that this is anal and usually just flip it if it's on the wrong way ~ no biggie. I will also not change it at friend's houses. I'll leave it be...but work and home I hold no quams about doing it.

The other one that is driving me nuts is I am anal about being on time for things. Tonight Rick and I have an appointment at 5:30. He informed me that a project he had to do this morning got pushed back to 4:00 this afternoon. I am totally flipping out because it takes about 35 min. to get from his work to our meeting location. Therefore, if his project runs a little late we will be extremely late for our appointment. Times like these I wish we had 2 cars!

When did I become so anal? Or maybe I was just always this way and I'm just noticing it now. At least I recognize it, therefore giving me a slight chance of changing...right?

Chicago part II

So are second day in Chicago last week was the funeral for Rick's Great Grandma. I was able to get around 5-6 hours of sleep that night, Rick only got 4 if he was lucky! Just thinking about the cleanliness and what happens in those beds is enough to make you crazy. I could only imagine getting crabs or something! So we get ready, check out, and head out for breakfast. After a quick breakfast at BK we were off to the cemetery.

Once there we called his Mom who said they (her and her fiance, Shawn) was there, looking at the deer. Deer in a cemetery in Chicago o_O? She drove around and met us so we could follow them over to where the deer were. As we were pulling up I was so surprised...a big heard of deer were just sitting in the middle of the cemetery. I dug my camera out of my purse and started snapping some shots. (I will post them at a later date...I haven't gotten around to pulling them off my camera yet) That was pretty neat and totally unexpected. Then we found out that the others were arriving shortly, so we made our way over to the reception area.

I finally got to meet Rick's biological Grandma. She seems nice. It was hot out that day, so we headed inside. Inside was neat. There was a big waterfall/plant section in the middle, a kitchen to the back, and a service area to the right. As we were standing around talking in the kitchen I noticed an empty bird cage, then low and behold, a parrot in the plans! I was surprised they actually let the bird stay out while people were there.

She seemed interested in all the people, she hopped out of the plant area and stood in the walk way for a min. Long enough to poop right on the floor! That was kinda gross! Then he proceeded to his cage to eat. What a mess!! Then she must have gotten bored or threatened by Rick's uncle because she climbed down walked over to him and grabbed his pant leg with her beak until he backed up. Then she went back to eating. A little while later she did the same thing, but was more aggressive. This time the funeral worker was around and she put the bird back in it's cage. That didn't last long. While the worker went to find twist ties the bird opened the cage door. We held it shut with a big stick until the lady got the twisties on the cage.

Then the viewing started, first they started calling all the family in one by one. I thought that was odd...why not call all family in together? Eventually we all were in and everyone talked for a while. They had some pictures of the family up. Some of these pictures had Rick in when he was a little baby, probably about 1 year old. I can honestly say he was the cutest damn baby ever!!! If we ever have a baby I certainly hope that it is that cute!

The rest of the day went on as usual. There were many conversations going on and some were more interesting than others. One that Rick and I really liked was about real Italian food. One of his extended family members started talking about a dish called Polenta. He told us good stories about making it and all the different things you could put into it. It sounds very good and we are all going to be invited down to have this member of the family make it for us! The pastor got on a lot of the family's nerves. He would just blurt Amen out in the middle of sentences and as Rick's Mom said he sounded like he was trying to sell church to everyone. After the burial we were kind of rushed back to the reception area as the workers were standing right there waiting for everyone to clear out so they could bury the casket. That was kinda tasteless I thought. And during the service out there they were standing there talking to each other. Not cool!

After returning to the hall everyone started to clear out. As everyone was preparing to leave I got to talk to Rick's Grandma alone. She informed me that she wanted a "real" Great Grandchild. She told me that she will have Shawn's daughter's baby as a "foster" (I think she meant step) Great Grand baby, but she wanted a real one that came from Ricky. I told her we'd see about that. Then she told me what I need to do:

1. Have lots of sex
2. Enjoy the sex
3. Don't worry about it because she had a conversation with the Lord and told him to give us a baby because she wants a real great grandchild

I got a kick out of that conversation!

By this point my feet were killing me. This was the first time I was wearing these shoes, and they were heels. Much taller heels than I am used to. So I headed to the car to change into my tennies! As we were saying our goodbyes we got to talking with Rick's aunt Tina. She's so sweet! She told Rick she was so glad he met me and that I was so nice and how she couldn't wait for us to get married and have babies! Kinda felt a little pressure that day! Then we all said our goodbyes and went on the long journey home. We sat in stop and go traffic for about 3 hours until we got to WI. Once we hit the last toll the sky got really dark and it started pouring really hard but we made it. Then had a nice dinner at Olive Garden with Rick's Mom and Shawn. All in all it was a good day ~ nice people, nice conversation, and no work!

The great housework debate

It appears as though you must point out the obvious when it comes to housework and men. A while back Rick and I had an argument/discussion about dishes. I would always get pissed off because I'd end up taking care of the dishes while he sat there watching TV/playing games/on the computer. His response was that I have to ask him to do things or he does not know that they need to be done.

I thought this was just him. Apparently it's not. My co-worker said her and her bf had a similar discussion and his response was the same. I tend to agree with her....we would like you to do it on your own. If there's a pile of clean dishes on the counter just put them away without our asking. It was comforting to know that this was a discussion other couples (or at least one) have had. :)

Chicago part I

So, this is a little late, but better late than never right? On Wed. we headed down to Chicago for Rick's Great Grandma's funeral. We were told it would be at 9 am on Thursday and decided to head down the day before so we didn't have to deal with Chicago rush hour. Since we decided this on Tuesday while Rick was on his way to class and we didn't know anything about where it would be ect. it was an unorganized chaotic mess on Wed.

First of all, I was stuck in a meeting all day, so I couldn't do much of the planning. When I was finally able to find out what was going on I found out that Rick's Mom (Dorothy) and Shaune (her fiance) were coming with us and we had to find 2 rooms. Then we went back and forth, they were coming they weren't they were they weren't. ARGH!! It ended up being they didn't go. We tried to find a hotel briefly before going. This did not work so well, so we decided to take care of it when we got there. We knew of a few hotels in the area, one that would not take reservations, and would go from there. Finally we were off to grab some dinner and get on the road. It would take about 2 hours to get there, and I was already exhausted!

On the way there we hit construction in Kenosha and in two spots after crossing the border. I have developed some strange anxiety to riding in the car. I panic big time, and basically become a basket case. Especially through construction and heavy traffic and when crazy ass taxi drivers just decide to come over into the lane you are in. But we made it in one piece and I was glad that part was over.

The next task at hand was finding a place to stay. We knew where a few of the hotels were located and found one of them pretty quickly. This ended up being the one we called that said they do not take reservations. That should have been a big warning flag right there! Looking around we could tell that this was not the best neighborhood, but thought it would do since it was close to the cemetery and we were ready to settle down for the night. So we went in. There was one guy who walked in right before us. As he was renting his room I took a look at the signs. One was a city ordinance that prostitution was illegal in the parking lot and another read NO FOUR HOUR BLOCKS. Hmmm....things were now starting to click. The hotel person then asked the guy in front of us how long he'd like his room for....8 hours.

Next it was our turn. Two white kids carrying dress clothes and a suitcase.....nah we're not out of place here. We get our room and told the lady we'd like it for the night and we were off to our room....a jacuzzi suite at that! As we turn around we notice another couple coming in. The girl was most definitely a prostitute! Yup that confirms that we were in over our heads. As Rick put it he'd never seen a real life prostitute....only the ones on Pretty Woman. From my marriage to a black man with family on the not so good North Side of Milwaukee I have had the pleasure of seeing prostitutes before.

The day's events

I wanted to come up with some great title, but I think I'm beyond that point at this time. It was a semi-productive day at work today. Got a bit farther on my documentation/cleanup of some database stuff.

I left early to take Rick to his road test to get his license. That did not go well. The DMV guy was a prick. Had an issue with Rick from the get go. Rick said How's it going? and the guy was like this way please. Then going out the door the guy told him that he wouldn't be running into people coming in if he used the door on the right. Then when testing the lights and such on the vehicle Rick couldn't hear him and the guy started yelling at him telling him he SAID turn off the lights...do it now! At this point you already know how it's going to go. The guy marked Rick for every 5 point deduction he could get away with. The guy said he didn't check his blind spot. Now, I drive with Rick every day, the ONE thing he does EVERY TIME is check the blindspot. Therefore, I know that is a crock of shit. When Rick said he did that the guy said "Well, I must have fallen asleep then" in a really smug tone.

Those of you who know Rick know he has a temper. A horrible horrible temper that he cannot control. So on the way out he kicked the doors, making a scene. Almost hit a lady walking in the parking lot. Then insisted on driving HIS way all the way home. Speeding and pounding the steering wheel. Now, I agree that the guy was an ass and more than likely failed him on purpose. BUT I totally disagree with his actions because he was mad. As if any of that would help the situation.

Once home he slammed the door of the van shut and immediately went inside slamming the door and punching the walls and throwing things. I could hear it in the garage. I then decided to stay out of harms way and sat on the front stoop reading. Meanwhile, the guy came to fix our AC which was broken since Sunday. As he got out of his van Rick started pounding on the door (from the inside) the guy looked up, then asked if I was having AC problems. I confirmed that yes we were.

He needed to go inside to check the filters, I let him in and went back out. About 15 min. later the AC guy said everything looked fine. It's probably just the humidity, once all the humidity was out of the house it would cool off. 3 hours later, it's a whopping 3 degrees cooler than when he got here. I think that's a load of shit. And I will more than likely have another night of little to no sleep. It's still 79 degrees in here. I'm roasting. :| Remind me again why I pay almost $1,000 a month in rent for this? When paying $600 I had an AC that worked, a NEW dishwasher, MY over-sized washer and dryer, and an extra $400 per month. Sigh.

On the plus side, I will get extra work on my SQL studies in this week! Which is much needed since I found that my creep of a boss has a meeting tomorrow with the people who want to buy the company (minus me)....see previous post.

I'm off to my sleepless night....I must get out of bed and get to the gym tomorrow morning!

Trip to Southridge

I finally got the call I've been waiting for over the last week. My contacts are in. Yay! I hate glasses and have missed having my contacts for the last few years. So, Rick and I went to the mall to pick them up.

While showering this morning I decided I wanted to stop at Layne Bryant and see if they still had the buy 2 get 2 sale on bras. I desperately need new ones. So, after picking up my contacts Rick and I went separate ways. First I went as planned to Layne Bryant and found they weren't having the same sale. So, I went to a couple other places to no avail. I was able to try on a Wonder Bra at Kohl's. although it was just a tad too small I had to sit there for a minute staring at myself....Those are mine? Wow it was like instant boob job! However, I was concerned that it was just a tad too small around the chest.

Rick met me at Kohl's and had a peculiar package in his hand. He said it was from Radio Shack. I went along with it since he's always looking at buying something electronic. He then convinced me to go back to that "big ladies store" and look at the bras, as expensive as they might be. So I went and tried on a few while he went his separate way again.

Same effect as the Wonder Bra, yet fits me perfectly. I have boobies now!!! I had them before, but they were not all they could be. That shit happens when you gain a shitload of weight then lose it again. The boobies are never the same. Now as long as I'm wearing these bras I can feel more confidant about the "girls". I just have to wonder why the heck I'm just getting these now? It's awesome! I <3 my new boobies.

And the peculiar package? It was a really cute teddy bear from our Jeweler's. Back in December we had gotten one of their Christmas bears with a purchase made there. It was a cute polar bear with a baby bear. Well, when we picked our order up apparently the polars were gone and all that was left was a brown teddy bear that was cute, but just not the same. Rick said they didn't have the polar bear, but these ones were cute too. I still think it was very sweet of him and nice to know he thought about me!

"Everyone but your tech person"

Today at work was a rather interesting day at work. First we had an interview, lately the whole company, yes all 6 of us, have been sitting in on the interviews for developers. The position has now been offered to 2 candidates we interviewed and gave a thumbs up to. However, the first guy would have either had to move to the Milwaukee area or commute everyday from Madison. So he kindly declined, or rather just didn't return any offers we made to him. Second guy was awesome! We all liked him and he got along very well with all of us. He wanted around 8 grand more than we could offer. Now to today's candidate. A nice young lady from India. I wasn't too impressed, but went along with it because we've got some projects that need to be done by mid-August that haven't even been started yet and she was ok. She was about 10 min late off the bat.....not a good sign. Then in the interview she was impartial to working alone or in a team, couldn't tell me if she preferred a project that had all the specs laid out or one where she got to go with it with minimal info. Now come on, you have to have at least a slight preference! But no, she didn't. She passed this interview and if references check out will be offered the position next week.

Then we had a nice little cookout for lunch to celebrate the 4th.....more or less because the boss said "maybe that's what we need" one day last week. It was fun, good food, good conversation, and beautiful weather! I managed to get a nice sunburn on my face and arms! It will leave some interesting tan lines....I was wearing a shirt with 3/4 sleeves.

After our 2 hour lunch we got some news from a district that said they weren't happy. Well, not them so much as a very picky programmer who has far too much time on her hands! Just to give a clue as to what we're dealing with.....in the past she has changed the code for an update and sent it back to the developer......her changes were wrong, but she thinks she's always right and we're always broken. My co-worker gets a brunt of her right now. She likes to pick on grammar BIG TIME! It's horrible!

So, we wanted to see this "mean" and uncalled for e-mail our boss got. Since I have all the passwords from the corecomm mess I decided to check it out.....(yes, morally wrong, but that's a whole other blog there). That e-mail wasn't as bad as it was chalked up to be. While in there we noticed a peculiar titled e-mail. So we read it. Well, looks like my good ol boss is looking at selling the company. The potential buyer had some requests for information and also stated that all staff would remain in place.....EXCEPT FOR THE TECH PERSON. Tech person = ME! My mouth hit the floor.

As cocky as it sounds, I run the company. I know how 95% of everything works and what I don't know I can figure out. I have been there the longest, and in fact am the only one who knows certain aspects. Out of 5 employees last spring I am the only Full Time employee remaining. My wonderful co-workers said he misrepresented the company and himself....I am the one that runs the company and if they don't take me it'll go under. I <3 them, they're sweet. I got a good chuckle out of the e-mail that said my boss is the best asset. What a joke! Everytime we go in his office with a question he's playing with his clippers OR staring out the window!

He has a list of about 20 things to do before mid-August......2 of those things are almost done. The first one is because he's working on it.....but has a long ways to go and may end up killing performance once more than a handful of users use it. The second one is because he gave it to me to do. It's taking me longer than expected to finish it, mostly because I'm doing a thorough job of documenting what it does so we can finally tell our customers what is supposed to happen.

Nearly 3 years of being on call 24x7 365 days per year, working numerous over time hours, and even pulling a 26 hour shift just to get customers up and running and this is what I get? You've got to be freaking kidding me! I think it's best if I hold off on moving right now as I'm not positive I'll have a job in the near future. Sigh......if something is meant to be it will be.

On the home front. Things have calmed down around here. Rick and I aren't at each other's throats. He found out that I was indeed serious about moving. I told him why. He then said he didn't want me to move. I decided to give it another shot.

Tomorrow we're going to a friend's party that is expected to last all night long! W00t! Cannot wait to get my drink on and hang out with some really cool peeps.

Hope everyone has an awesome long weekend!

CoreComm Sucks!

So, last week we came to work and found a new Web interface for our e-mail system. We also found that all e-mails that were on CoreComm's server after 6/11 were gone! Tried calling their tech support multiple times a day and got a busy signal each time. Around lunchtime we found an alternate method to accessing our e-mail. Pain in the ass? Yes. But at least we were able to get to it. Thursday was more of the same crap....still unable to get a hold of them. Friday more of the same, but we took a more direct approach to contacting them. My boss called the sales number and I called support until I got through.

After being on hold we finally got some answers:
1. The problems were because they were changing mail servers.
2. Would be fixed by Monday at the latest.
3. We were not notified because:
a. It was only supposed to take 3 hours
b. It is not company policy
c. "I'm not sure why you weren't notified"
***notice the inconsistancy
4. There was something wrong with our mapping, which is why we would get mail that was sent to the non-mapped e-mail addresses and not the mapped ones.
5. Lars was the guy my boss talked to, however he did not have a direct number.
6. We would NOT have to make ANY changes to our Outlook setup

Fast forward to Monday morning:
Problems have gotten worse! Now we can't even access through the old way to get our messages. The one acct that was working on Friday is not working at all. Therefore we have NO e-mail service!

Call the number Lars provided. Busy, busy, busy......finally get through. The outgoing message states they are having problems on their end and it would be fixed by Monday at the latest. Yeah, not so much. Talk to Scott. He looks at the fun error message from the acct that was working previously. Then looks at the other problem that we can't get to the mail the old way either. Neither are known issues.....has to bump it up to the "systems people". Then he can't help me with the mapping issue. I must call back and talk to the "business people". Nope, he can't transfer, I just have to call back.

So after 2 hours I'm no further than when I arrived this morning. Still calling the "business people" and still getting a busy signal. I'm looking at transfering to google's hosted services. Hopefully my boss will go for it.

Anyone reading this: CORECOMM SUCKS!!!!!! Stay away!!!!

By the way, this is not the first time they've changed servers without notifying customers. Last fall they changed the server our web page was on without telling us. Yup, another week of downtime there! Bastards!

An update on the situation: after hours and hours of busy signals we finally got through to the "business people". A very nice gentleman named Adam helped us out. Told me I have to change MX records, setup all the accts correctly (apparently there is no more mapping), and informed me of the Outlook changes I'd have to make. Yeah....refer to #6 above. Does this company know up from down? I think not!

The Dells

So, Rick and I spontaneously decided to go to the Dells for his B-day weekend. It's been fun, but we ran into a few obstacles. First of all, it took us almost 4.5 hours to get here! Oak Creek to the Dells should only take 1.5 hours or so, 4.5 is how long it takes me to get all the way to Hudson! We picked a fine time for Rick's first time freeway driving. I drove to HWY 83 where we stopped for lunch and coincidentally happened to be were I-94 was closed. Then he drove the rest of the way. He said he's sick of driving for now. I don't blame him! So, we FINALLY get here, check into our hotel, get our free tix to Mt. Olympus. After applying sunscreen and getting a few things situated we were off to Mt. Olympus.....which now has a special where you buy one day get the second free! W00t!

We pull into the first entrance we see for it, which happens to be the main entrance. Suddenly we realize that there is a $2.00 fee for parking at this lot. WTF! I'm glad our tix came with our room! Of course we do not carry any cash with us, since we rely on debit 95% of the time. :) So, the lady let us through anyways. We find a decent parking spot then mosey on into the rides. We hopped on the first roller coaster we see ~ Zeus. This is the first roller coaster I have been on in over 7 years! Wow, I forgot what they're all about! It was fun, and a little scary for me at first. I can admit it :P After that ride we went on to Hades. While standing in line for that one I realized that my inhaler fell out of my pocket somewhere between the hotel room and the ride. I panic, not only is it not a good thing to be without it just in case, but I just bought the damn thing and since my insurance company is a bunch of douche bags they won't cover it so I paid $40.00 for it and barely used it! So, Rick comforts me and says it's no big deal and we go on.

I was scared sh*tless of Hades, it looked so fast and like it went so high. I guess you go approximately 75mph on the drop down under the parking lot. But I got on it, once we got to the part of going up the big hill before going on that drop I turned to Rick and said I don't want to ride it anymore! But I stuck through it and it was actually pretty quick and fun!

Then we went on some other roller coaster that was a baby compared to Hades. After that we went on the Mt Olympus Ducks tour. That was a tad disappointing since it only took you around the Mt. Olympus grounds, and a brief stint through the back of the Deer Park.

After that we decided to head back to the hotel as Rick didn't want to go to the water park areas. His excuse was that he's too insecure to go there and walk around w/o a shirt. I have a hard time grasping that one, since I'm the bigger of the two of us and I have absolutely no problem prancing around in my swimming suit. My mentality is who gives a f*ck. If they don't like it they don't have to look and I'll never see these people again so who cares? Whatever.

We tried out the jacuzzi when we got back. Very naughty and very nice. ;) I so have to have one in my house when I get one!

Before heading out for dinner we decided to mosey on back to Mt. Olympus to see if anyone turned in my inhaler. Since we didn't want to pay for parking we parked in the back lot by the water park areas. The water park areas were just closing as we were walking through. The lost and found ended up being on the complete other side of the park! So after a long long hike we ended up at lost and found. Nope, they didn't have it. However we did make an observation at this point. A lot of the employees there don't speak English very well and have a heavily foreign accent. We noticed this at the ticket booth, the food stand, and now at lost and found. When asking for a pink inhaler she showed us a blue key-clip thinger that had money in it. o_O Then she suggested we try the ride itself.

In order to get to the ride from this point we had to walk farther away from where we parked and up a VERY steep hill. (ok, it wasn't too horribly steep, but I'm still working on getting in shape, so it was mildly difficult for me at this time of day) We get to the ride and low and behold my inhaler was turned in!!!! Yay!! Since we were that far we decided to ride that coaster again....in the front per Rick's request! It was definitely more fun with my eyes open and in the front! Then since Hades is right next to it we decided to go on that one again. It was fun, no matter HOW much whining I did before getting on. :)

Dinner was yet another adventure. We were going to eat at this all you can eat seafood buffet next to the hotel. However when we got there we noticed it was $30 per person and we didn't know if drinks were included. So, we decided on pizza instead. We both thought the pizza was just OK, but it ended up costing about half of what we would have paid for the buffet! After returning to the hotel we decided to get Rick's homework done so we didn't have to worry about the deadline on Sunday. It wasn't too bad, only took 1.5 hours max.

The ride home only took 2.5 hours. Dad gave me about a million different options on how to get home from HWY 12 when I wished him a Happy Father's Day. Eventually we ended up behind a Jeep with a Don Jacob's license plate holder......we knew they were fellow Milwaukeeans not only by the plate but by their driving as well. Us Milwaukee folks don't like going the speed limit and we certainly don't like traffic. We could see this driver getting majorly pissed as we were in stop and go traffic for about 30 min! But after we passed the small town causing the traffic (with their 3 traffic lights) we were smooth sailing. Then we came upon HWY 19, and the Jeep was taking that. HWY 19 was one option my Dad gave me, so we decided to follow the Jeep. Eventually we were back on I-94 and well on our way home! We ended up stopping at Rick's Mom's place to wish her Fiance happy father's day and stayed for a couple hours.

Then we went on another adventure before going home ~ trying to find Pizza Shuttle! Rick decided he wanted some wings from there for dinner. So we went in search of them. We got off on North Ave. and turned on Farwell. After a couple blocks we didn't see it so we turned around (darn one way streets!) and came back. Still couldn't find it. So I decided to txt Google. After all, Google knows all! I got the address in turn and we found out we just didn't go far enough. about 5 blocks down from where we turned around we finally found it. Then we finally made it home.

The kitties were happy to see us and I was happy to be home. However, I was not happy to see the mounds of laundry that needed to be washed yet. At least Rick was thoughtful and kind enough to sort the laundry for me before leaving! I did one load last night ~ the "necessity load" and will work on the rest tonight. I wish I had a maid!

Goals

I'm on a roll with goals this year! So far I've met 3 of my goals I set for myself in 2008.

1. Quit smoking as of 2-18-08
2. Lost 25 lbs as of May 08
3. I was able to walk/jog a mile in 14.08 minutes! 6/13/08

I realize #3 is probably something many people can do, but as far as I can remember I have never done a mile in under 15 min....much less under 20. I absolutely hated running in school and thought the presidential fitness tests were BS so, I just walked them basically. Even if I did actually run them I'm not positive I would have been able to get it under 15 min.

So, that puts me on to my next set of goals:
1. Lose 20 lbs by Rick's graduation in September, and another 20 by the end of the year
2. Complete one mile in 10 min.
3. Earn my MCTS SQL Server 2005 by September

W00t I can do this!

Just for fun

Ok, I stole it from a friend's blog. But I thought it would be fun, and I'm trying to waste 10 min before it's time to go home!

1) What were you doing five years ago?

I was married and working as a Customer Service rep/data entry clerk for Universal Mortgage. Also, helping my ex-husband doing his one and only consistent job through our 5 year marriage...the paper route.

2) What are three things on my to-do list for tomorrow?

a) Get a good workout in at the gym
b) Do some SQL Server Prep
c) Work

3) Snacks I enjoy:

Chips and salsa, nuts, and summer sausage/cheese/crackers

4) Things I would do if I were a billionaire

a) Pay off my bills
b) Buy a house
c) Buy a new car ~ nothing fancy
d) Open an animal shelter

5) Two states I have lived

a) Wisconsin
b) Louisiana

6) Some jobs I've had

a) Network Admin
b) Customer Service Rep
c) Daycare teacher - toddlers
d) Master Bear Builder ~ Build-A-Bear Workshop Rocks!!!!
e) Swing Manager at McDonald's

7) How did you come across the name for your blog?

On the day I created it I was reflecting on the drama in my life and the comedic aspect of it all from the outside. :)

Reflections

Life doesn't always turn out the way we expect it to. But it's the adventure that makes it interesting. When I graduated HS I thought I was all set on where I was going in my life. Had everything planned out. I was going to be a biochemist and married with children by 25. Now I'm 27, divorced and a network administrator with no kids. Guess I couldn't have been more wrong!

But I've had fun along the way and I've seen some things I loved and some I wish I hadn't. Even if given the chance I don't think I'd take back my marriage, or my past relationships. I've learned so much from them and so much about myself in the process. I have a feeling that things are starting to fall into place now and I'm getting ready for the next adventure life has in store for me.

I look at past class mates and how successful they are. It's so great to see everyone doing so well. Well, here's to many more great adventures and successes in life!

So proud

Just a forewarning this has to do with IT. So, if you're not IT you may not know what the heck I'm talking about.

So, I'm at work and my co-worker brings it to my attention that the forms for one customer are not the same as another. I looked and sure enough, some have different file dates. So I figure I'll go in and execute my script to disburse all the newer forms to the right places. All the sudden I notice that I'm getting access denied. :| Then I realize that we made all the .docs read only since that script was made. So, I just spent the last 2 hours (yeah, I know I'm a little slow, I'm new to scripting) trying to figure out how to go through all 40 directories (x5 servers) and change the attribute to non-read only then copy my new file and make them read only again. But I got it, and minus a stupid little setback* I got it to work! I'm so proud, and I did it all by myself! W00t!

*While testing I made an output file for the script read only and didn't notice, then wondered why I was still getting access denied.

I just want a few minutes alone!

Today's mood = Annoyed!

Since Rick and I have gotten home I have: planted the pepper and tomato plants we bought, made dinner (with Rick's constant you're doing it wrong), folded a load of laundry, washed/dried a load of laundry that I'll probably fold before bed, unloaded the dishwasher, reloaded the dishwasher, made 2 loaves of banana bread, hand-washed the large dishes, and cleaned the kitchen. I'm exhausted.

While making dinner Rick starts making comments like you're cooking it wrong, "my new slogan is going to be women: what CAN they do?" I swear it took all the power in me not to smack him for that one! Then throughout the night he's just being obnoxious. Just leave me alone I need quiet! Sorry to be a crab ass, but seriously. I'm crabby that I had to do all of that. I'm crabby that I got to spend all day yesterday cleaning and doing laundry while he watched TV and lounged. Only to do a half ass job at cleaning the kitchen right as we were about to go to bed.

Interesting Fact of the Day

So, while prepping for my MCTS this afternoon I discovered that Microsoft licensed the first version of SQL Server from Sybase (according to the MCTS Self-paced Training Kit (Exam 70-431)). I find that interesting as the DBMS I'm most familiar with is Sybase. I'm interested in finding out the various similarities/differences between the two.

The ackwardness

So, tonight was extremely awkward for some reason.
Lets recap this week:
  • Monday & Tuesday, Rick did not speak to me at all except to say he needed the van to go get "some stuff" and where are the clippers.
  • Wed. he talked to me online, freaking out because his job asked for a license/passport and he doesn't have his license yet and technically needs it for the job. Later that evening he talked more and we went to Steak Escape at Southridge to satisfy his monster craving and practice driving.
    • He made a comment that we were fighting earlier this week and we're still fighting. o_O I thought we both said it was over. It's over = No more fighting......at least to me.
  • Today: Talked online, he was sleeping when I got home. I went through some CDs to find the Windows Server 2003 disk so I could put it on my VM. He said I should have asked.....My thoughts? You were sleeping and I know how you are when you get woken up. Plus you slept through me bringing up groceries and putting them away, and me searching for the damn CD. What makes you think I'd be able to wake you?
  • Dinner today: He made dinner while I was playing with my VM. Out of habit, I grabbed his hip in the kitchen, like usual. He got quiet, finished dinner, told me to come eat. I went out and found he had not dished up my dinner as usual. Then he would not talk to me much. All that equals instant awkwardness. Ewe!
The next few months of this drama/comedy I call my life should be very entertaining! Hope you enjoy!

Now I must go to bed because I am tired and have to get up early tomorrow all because 1 user happens to still be on. Doh!
