You call this parenting?

Yesterday Rick and I were eating at Subway inside Walmart in Franklin. When we were ordering we noticed a little girl maybe 5-6 years old sitting at one of the tables and playing with a nearby cart. There was an older gentleman at a table near that one who appeared to be watching her.

As we were eating at the table next to hers a woman came up with a baby in a car seat carrier. She told the little girl "I'm going to go get baby some food you sit here". o_O WTF you're going to leave a child sitting by herself at a table in the front of a Walmart store? The little girl protested and told the lady she wanted to go with. By the Mc Donald's Happy Meal bag sitting on the table I had the feeling the poor little girl was sitting there the whole time while this lady was doing all of her shopping. After the lady left we kept an eye on the girl and the guy who appeared to be watching her. Then he left, confirming the fact that this little girl was sitting by herself at that table with no adult supervision.

When the lady came back (with the baby food and all of her stuff checked out) she fed the baby from one of the cans she bought and yelled at the little girl for getting the baby's toy in the food. In her yelling at the little girl (who did VERY well sitting by herself) we found out that this was her Grandma! We had just finished eating and got out of there ASAP I had enough!

Although I am not a parent myself I find this completely appalling! You DO NOT under ANY circumstances leave a child of that age alone by themselves in public! It would have been SO easy for a stranger to walk up and take that girl out the door without anyone knowing any different. Big fricken whoop if the kid bothers you because she wants something...or everything...there's a response to that: NO! And I bet if something did happen to that little girl the "Grandma" would be all upset and whining.
